Frequently Asked Questions
What will I learn?
The ‘Build a Quad’ course teaches students how to build and fly a quadcopter from scratch. At the end of this two-week course, the student will build a robust, GPS-stabilized, camera-equipped quadcopter and begin developing the skills to safely fly the quadcopter. The goal of this course is to nurture and stimulate interest in applications of software and electronics by building remote controlled robot.
The ‘Build an App’ course is a unique course that teaches students the use of web-technology and the tools required for an app development. Students will learn to use industry standard tools, frameworks and languages that comprise the mobile web technology stack. Students apply this knowledge and skill set to design and develop a functional app at the end of the course.
I don’t have any programming experience at all. Can I still take ‘Build an App’ course this summer?
Yes, absolutely! The middle school and high school students who make up a large fraction of students in our classes have some programming background. But, we also have adult students including entrepreneurs who do not have programming background but are interested in understanding how they can develop an app for their business. The ‘Build an App’ class is designed with beginners in mind. If you’ve never written a line of code, we’re ready to teach you from the very start. With MobileArq, you’ll learn the core components of computational thinking and coding best-practices.
I’ve already taken AP computer science or other CS courses. Is this class for me?
We’ve had many students take our classes with prior programming experience – from AP CS to other summer programs. Our classes are designed to stretch students who already are coming in with some knowledge of programming. Please view our course curriculum to get information on the course content and you can always reach out to us by email, firstname.lastname@example.org or phone, 908-273-3458.
What does a typical day in MobileArq’s summer classes look like?
We start the class off with an overview class objectives. We then follow with interactive practices, and coding challenges, review of the completed tasks and work on the assigned tasks in web technology. Students also work in groups to complete larger code challenges and work on ongoing projects. We also find time to get out of our seats to play improvised games and get outside for a walk and fresh perspective!
Do I need my own laptop?
Students enrolled in our ‘Build and App’ course do need to bring a laptop to the class. Macs are preferable but a PC that will work also. Please reach out to us if you are unable to bring a laptop to the class.
Who teaches the classes?
Our classes are all taught by experienced educators and developers. Each teacher has gone through extensive training in front and back end development and an in person boot camp. We have a co-teaching model in our classes, which means that every course has two teachers – we do our best to pair an experienced teacher with an experienced developer.
What is the student to teacher ratio?
Our classes never exceed a 10:1 student to instructor ratio. It’s important to us that all of our students are able to receive the individualized attention they need throughout our programs.
